The apartment is on a small street a few blocks from the Colosseum in the Celio area, with supermarket, cafes, restaurants, and gelateria within several blocks. The apartment is on the ground floor in the back of the building, facing a small courtyard and right next door to where Todd and Juan Carlos live. Todd is an American and Juan Carlos an Italian Argentine, and they run an antiques business based in Rome and New York. They are both very friendly and offered advice on places to eat in the neighborhood (as well as a warning NOT to eat anywhere too close to the Coliseum or other tourist sites). Juan Carlos even offered to drive us to Termini on the day we were leaving for Naples.
There is a small entrance foyer containing a comfortable sofabed, then a small bedroom with a very firm queen bed, a long glass bar with two barstools, a small kitchen, and a small bathroom. Todd and Juan Carlos have decorated the apartment tastefully with a circular graphic theme, and have included a TV/monitor hooked up to cable TV service, an Apple iBook with high speed Internet connection, and a DVD player. There is a CD player on one of the nightstands, as well as a small washing machine in the kitchen and a drying rack out in the courtyard. You can control your own heat and hot water, which is ideal for me because I'm always cold.
The apartment was amazingly quiet at night -- you can't hear any of the neighbors next door and there is no one living overhead. The one drawback to the place is the very small bathroom: though it had a separate stall shower, you had to squeeze by the toilet to get into it, and the shower itself was only about 24x30". Luckily both my husband and I are very slender, so we had no problems. Other than that warning about the bathroom the apartment is exactly as advertised on Roman Reference, and I'd recommend this company as they were prompt, courteous, and thorough in all their email correspondence with us.
