Within walking distance is the vibrant neighbourhood of Testaccio where you can visit the Marco Museum of Contemporary Art.
Nearby is a farmers' market and the only Bio (Organic) market in Rome called "Citta' dell'altra Economia" (literally City of the Other Economy) where lots of activities for adults and children take place on Saturdays and Sundays.
Every Sunday you can also visit the biggest and most fascinating open market in Italy, the famous Porta Portese. Let's say that it is the Italian version of Portobello Market.
The cool night life of Travestere and Campo dei Fiori is only 5 - 10 minutes away by tram.
