Apartment Owner's Notes and Description
Villa Vendicari - the real one -

Please Note: (you'll find several other listing with this name, but they're not registered, ie illegal. Often not even near Vendicari, you are now in the real place, welcome, stay safe and be sure to enjoy the time you spend in Paradise :)

& SUSTAINABILITY we are trying hard to be 100% indipendent from the grid if you want to know more on how we planned it and how we are faring please go down to the end of my description here for the details. After the list of wineries and such.

$ The swimming pool is covered and should be usable throughout the year since the cover will keep it warm during the winter and safe during the summer if you have babies. The cover also allows us to use less salt to keep it clean and avoids that animals go in and drawn in it. For our sustainability and swimming pool chapter please go down to the bottom of my description.

*This villa has been published several times on architecture reviews and glossy magazines, I don't think I can put the links here, but once you've booked I'll be eager to point you out to the right links

**We're setting this up as sleeping 10 people assuming at least two in the lot will be children. There technically could sleep 2 more people in a tent that I provide in the tree house and if necessary two more beds could be added inside. There are 4 bedrooms and two living-rooms with two double sofa beds. There are 3 full bathrooms + 2 hot showers outside. Are you more than 8 people? Let's talk and see if this is suitable for you before you book ;)

$$ We provide biodegradable toilet paper, bio shampoo, bio soap, detergent for the dishwasher (bio and not bio for extra cleaning), the washing machine uses active oxygen, ozone and UV rays do clean the clothes, no need for detergents, only cold water. For sustainability details please go down to the bottom.

$$$ We built a professional stone BBQ that you are welcome to use. It is provided with a sink and fresh water supply on the side. Please do take every precaution when using it especially during the summer

My garden was meant to be an edible garden (oregano, salvia, time, myrtle, rosemary etc), growing up it mixed in a whole lot of pants that weren't edible and it became overall rather wild compared to a typical Italian garden. I've planted a couple of hundred trees among them figue, pommegranade, pepper, ficus, carob, almond, olive, lemon, orange, konkwat, quince, lime.

The original idea of the house came looking at the stone it would sit on from the satellite. It struck me as a fossil animal body. The only variation I made to this image was cutting and separating the head so that I could have two severed independent constructions, otherwise the full shape repeats over on over again in the motives of the house (the skylight, the table, the barbecue, the space where the house olive tree grows etc). The organic idea developed from there, our intention was to melt the building into the nature, and feel as little separation from the inside out.

-----

It is today widely accepted that the Vendicari natural reserve hosts arguably the most beautiful sand beaches of Sicily. Vendicari itself, Calamosche (voted the best Italian beach in 2006), Eloro, Marianelli, San Lorenzo, Carratois, these are all sandy beaches within 10min drive with cristaline, warm waters. Waters are naturally protected by a healthy sea grass called Posidonia and artificially by the natural reserve rule that no boats can pass nearby it.

As for culture there are Roman and Greek ruins within a 5min drive from the villa (the Roman Villa of Tellaro is one of the main landmarks of my property) and within the Natural Reserve. The Unesco World Heritage city of Noto, with it's baroque churches and buildings is only 8kms away and Siracusa within a 20min drive as well as Modica and Scicli.

As for nature you will be located in the middle of one of the most beautiful natural reserves of Italy. Also the surrounding area offer plenty of opportunity for natural excursions and the Etna vulcano is only 1hr drive away

Villa Vendicari is a secluded family villa with sea view and easy access (1 mile) to the sea and to a world famous natural reserve, Vendicari. There is only one neighbour at close distance but with a different country road access. She's far enough not to hear music or smells coming from her place anyway...

It's composed of two buildings, Villa Vendicari Junior and Villa Vendicari Senior, and a 25,000sqmts garden and swimming pool.

You can rent it in exclusive here on this listing if you find it available, or just rent part of it in exclusive and/or with common use of the garden and swimming pool if you're price sensitive.

The villa is located within the boundaries of natural reserve right at the Vendicari entrance to the National Park leading directly to one of its best sandy beaches and the renown Tonnara di Vendicari. Distance from Noto, the closest town, is 8km.

The apartment overall is 250mq, plus 250 mts of terraces, 100 mts of roof garden, 600sqmt of lawn, 20,000mts of garden, private parking, swimming pool.

A note about sleeping places: I'm setting this up as sleeping 16 people including 4 people in a tent that I will provide in the tree house. There are 4 bedrooms and two living-rooms one of which has a double sofa bed. There are 3 full bathrooms + 2 hot showers outside. Are you more than 8 people? Let's talk and see if this is suitable for you before you book ;)

The villa is composed of two apartments buildings.
Vendicari Senior
170 sq mts, set on the ground floor it is composed of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a very large and spacious lounge room with kitchen, skylight and 7 windows. One enters the house via a large, shaded terrace. On the ground floor is a living and dining area with fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen connecting  to a corridor leading to two bedrooms with en-suite bathroom to the right and going forward to the main bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Right outside the outside barbecue area and the edible garden (see below for details)
Vendicari Junior
80sq mts, set on the ground floor just beside the other building, it is composed of 1 bedroom, 1 living with kitchen corner and one bathroom.

On entering the gate of the villa, you'll drive by olive and other Mediterranean trees (~350mts) until you get to the private parking and the lawn on the side of the path to the villa.

The Property: The property is made of 25,000sqmts. 250sqmts is the villas. Another 450sqmts is of terraces around the house to and around the swimming pool. 600sqmts is lawn around the house. Another 400sqmts is herbs (mostly edible). The rest of the field is to be cultivated with medical herbs.

Terraces overlook the sea, have a bench and pillows, they can be used only by adults that are wary of risks, no children are allowed on the Vendicari Senior' terrace, while the Vendicari Junior has no risks, but it's only a garden, no dedicated space for sitting etc. The sea is clearly visible also downstairs although it must be admitted that dawn and sunset are more spectacular upstairs.

The garden has several dozens of different trees:
lemon, dozens of olive trees, dozens of carob trees, orange, persimmon, figues, konkuats, dozens of almond trees, several pepper trees, pomegranate, hackberry, different variaeties of oaks.
There is an abundant edible garden with hundreds of aromatic herbs: rosemary, caper, calendula, sagebrush, mallow, myrtle, lavender, thyme, majoram, mint, red pepper, oregano
There are several bushes, among others: viburnum, laurel. papyrus, lentiscus.

Noto, with its excellent restaurants and food stalls, is located about seven minutes away with the beautiful sandy beaches of Eloro, Calamosche, Vendicari and Lido di Noto just ten to fifteen minutes further on. The beautiful Duomo Square of Ortygia in Siracusa is forty minutes away with the other Baroque towns of Modica, Ragusa an Scicli about an hour away. So with those, along the vineyards of Etna and the Roman mosaics at Piazza Armerina, which about two hours away, you are ideally placed to make the most of what South East Sicily has to offer whether that be food, wine, culture, or quiet relaxation.

A little note about climate: The average temperature is ~20°C, rain here is rare and it is considered a blessing, however I understand if you'd rather not have it at all, in the attached graphic (last picture) you can see the months when it rains less or more. Even october, where you see the bigger line it is nothing like the rest of Europe, this area is desertic, even the north of Sicily is considered very humid here. Rains will never be much of a nuisance, they usually are very intense, but brief. You can easily imagine a rainy day where of October where you've been to the beach twice and swam at length in rather warm waters. This is indeed my experience. One important note when you look at the graphic is indeed the temperature of the sea water which is way warmer in October/November than March/April, incidentally, I swim in both these seasons here.

A note about security: It is really under control. There is an alarm system that is very modern and efficient, besides the security guards that are contracted to be available within 10min if you call them (or call me to call them) and informed automatically every time the alarm goes off, more importantly than that in over five years we didn't have problems of any sort, our gardener lives not far and keeps everything in check, I am a local myself and respected by the neighbors, which is the best security system. Said that, when you leave the house it is good practise to turn the alarm on, when you are inside, it's not suggested to turn it on since it can be a nuisance.

Access to the sea

The house is located in the B area of the natural reserve, once you
cross the road (SP19) you are in the natural reserve, a walk all the
way to the beach takes 15/20min at a fast pace, although it's a really
pleasant and short car ride and the parking is easy and free, so I
suggest probably to ride by car to the parking and walk from there so
you don't have to cross the SP19, however a walk should take you 15min or so. Once in the natural reserve you can
choose among 6 different sandy beaches, depending on how far you want
to walk (the coastline is about 12Kms)

However the house has a swimming pool and a very large garden and
terraces. I've seen in the past that many guests have on average spent
a lot of time at home... and I do too ;)

Distances

Catania airport: 88km-50miles-55mins
Palermo airport: 300Km-186miles-3hr25
Trapani airport: 384km-228miles-4hr05
Siracusa: 30km-22miles-25mins
Noto: 8km-5miles-40mins
Sandy beaches at Vendicari Nature Reserve: 2km-1miles-5mins.

Beaches

The best beaches are all in the natural reserve, you have Vendicari which is about 3min drive from home which I love, Marinelli which is about 7min drive, Cala Mosche which is about 10 min drive and Eloro which is about 15min drive, all of these you can reach walking through the natural reserve from Vendicari, easy walks in nature

Restaurants

Going to Vendicari there is a restaurant open air which I like to go to from time to time, it's the only one you find on the street to Vendicari and you see it from the street, it's called il Baglietto about 2kms away from the house. Another restaurant close by the house is called Pantanelli di Vendicari.

Going to Cala Mosche there are two restaurants that I love in the unpaved road, one is called Torre Vendicari and the other one is beside the parking of Cala Mosche

n Noto I go to Dammuso or to the Crocifisso and I love both of them. If you want to stay on the cheap side, though tasty and somewhat charming, go to Il Libertino across the street from the Dammuso. Norma is also a good restaurant and Manna is upscale and very good. All of these you can find on google for directions and phone numbers.

In Marzamemi (Please Note: Marzamemi is generally become a tourist trap and is to be avoided, but if you really want to go)

1- Campisi (possibly closed in winter)

2- La Cialoma, amazing location right on the main Piazza, the value for money is bad compared to other places in the area.

4- Giramapao, good value for money, but not such a great location, it's on the corso right before Campisi going towards the Piazza

Restaurants in PortoPalo

1- Pensione Scala, amazing value for money, location not so great

2- U Piscaturi, good location near the harbor, huge quantities, average quality, good price

Supermarkets and Groceries

Closest supermarkets are in Noto and or Pachino at about 8kms distance, otherwise small groceries can be found in San Lorenzo at about 4kms distance and/or Marzamemi about 5Kms distance.
My tip is to use the three wheelers for the produce, so you get it local, in the supermarket you'll get low quality imported produce.

Meat

Local meat can be found in the center of Pachino at a butcher called Nieli
This is not a meat area really, I think that at Lidl in Avola have a good meat selection
https://www.lidl.it/it/ricerca-filiale.htm
Or at the 'Sì Più' just when entering Noto, the supermarket to the left

Fish

For the fish you may want to try Nardone shop named Blue Fish in Pachino or further away go to the harbor in Portopalo where you will find the fish market

Wineries

a. http://planeta.it/territories/noto/
it's about 10km from home totally worth it
book here
http://planeta.it/contatti/#section_three

b. There is a very characteristic winery close to home 'Cantine Modica' you can follow the indications, it's about 5km from home, this is not nearly as professional and high quality, but may be interesting exactly for that. They have a place in Noto, which is touristy, and place near us which is very real. Maybe call them if you can't find it?

f. Close to the house is another interesting canteed with natural wine: Marabino, you can find it online

SUSTAINABILITY

The backbone of how I've planned the sustainability of the house is based on mainly on 3 pillars

Power
Water
Structure

Most electrical power used at Villa Vendicari is generated by the sun. This property is all-electric with the aim of lowering carbon emissions. We are in the process of adding 5 additional KW of photovoltaic panels on the roof terrace and the roof garden to finally reach full independence from the grid.

Photovoltaic

These solar modules generate electricity by absorbing sunlight and using that light energy to create an electrical current which is then turned by an inverter to alternating current and provides the whole house with its power. If you are not directly using the power, it will be stored here in the TESLA powerwall accumulator of 14KW.

Water heating solar panels

Water solar panels on the terrace of both houses heat a liquid called Glicole. When the temperature of this liquid is higher than the water temperature in the tank (300lts in the big house + 200lts in the small house) this liquid is pumped into a serpentine that runs through the tank thus heating up the water. Using the hot water at the end of a sunny day, regardless of the seasons, will ensure that you're not using any additional energy than that provided by the sun to heat it up.

As yet, if we don't pay attention to the use of energy in the house, we won't obtain 100% sustainability, especially during the winter. Therefore, if you care about being sustainable, maybe inquire with us for your knowledge on how best to keep within limits. We have planned to install 5 more KWs of fotovoltaic panels that will take us one further step in that direction
----

Water Provisions

Water is mainly pumped in from a well by the house which goes 70mts deep. We accumulate and use also rainwater which in part is used also for the house but mainly for the garden.

We have a tank of 20,000lts of rain water coming mainly from the house top surface. All the rain water we gather in the year (more or less 120,000 liters) is reused. Nevertherless it is not nearly enough for everything, therefore the use of water has to be limited wherever possible.

-----

The Structure of the house is efficiently isolated in the 'opaque' perimeter, but not in the 'transparent' one unfortunately.

1-the roof garden: three quarters of the houses roofs are garden: A green roof's plants remove air particulates, produces oxygen and provides shade. Additionally, this natural protection against extreme heat enables green roofs to last twice as long as traditional rooftops. Green roofs also contribute to the sustainability of a building. A green roof significantly reduces the need for air conditioning in summer and provides insulation in the winter.

2- the walls:  two walls have been built all around the house so that an air cushion is left inside to isolate from the heat/cold outside

3- the floor: under the house the terrain has been quenched and tempered, a layer of stones has been set to sustain and isolate it from the earth humidity. On top of that 'igloos' have been set to further isolate the house

4- air convection: we use passive cooling in the house. air convection has been studied so that opening windows and skylight the hot air from the house can quickly be convected outside

Windows are very big and could use an improvement in isolation unfortunately.

During the summer hot air convection has been studied so that if you open the skylight that will pump out the hottest air. Air convection for the winter is not ideal.

APPLIANCES AND SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability and dishwasher won't go hand in hand in my house because the water is very hard and stains the crockery if you don't use detergent. The sustainable way to wash the dishes is probably do it outside at the barbecue with white vinegar instead of detergent.

Washer in the Senior house, if properly used, is perfectly sustainable because I've had installed beside it a machine that disinfects the water with active oxygen, ozone and UV rays. With this method you only need a 15min wash with cold water (15 degrees) to clean the clothes and you don't pollute the field with detergents.

Induction stove is the most sustainable, or rather the least unsustainable, way of cooking, because it's the most efficient out there. It works with magnetism and heats directly the food instead of heating first the metal that then needs to heat the food.

WINTER HEATING AND SUSTAINABILITY

Safe from geo-thermic, which I tried to install but I couldn't find anybody capable of doing it in Sicily, there is no such a thing as a sustainable heating system. Being sustainable and heating a house are therefore, two completely different and opposed concept. The sustainable heating, if you don't have geo-thermic, is no heating.

What I've done in the Villa Vendicari to minimize the damage is installing a thermo chimney which is way more efficient than any classic chimney.

Basically the heat generated by the chimney is mostly captured by a tank placed on top of it. When the tank water reaches a pre-set temperature, I set it at 45 degrees, two low consume pumps send it in the radiators across the house.

Alternative to that are the heat pumps on the walls, the method most Sicilan households use, which is extremely inefficient and doesn't heat the walls but just the air, therefore it works for just the time you have it on, although quickly: it takes a few minutes to heat up the compressor, then it starts and it will make a room feel comfortable within 10min or so, at the cost of a disproportionate use of electric power though.

SWIMMING POOL AND SUSTAINABILITY

The swimming pool meant as a leisure place where you cool down when you feel hot or even meant, as I use it, as a place to train your body, can hardly be considered to be sustainable at all.

Nevertheless if you are obliged to do it for the sustainability of the vacation rental business there are ways to do it that have less impact.

Cover: covering the pool appropriately is what will make possible to keep the same water for years instead of changing it every year. This is why we didn't save on the cover and got the top of the market (abritel), we also pay uttermost attention to the filtering system, keeping it clean and in tune. We target to change the water every 5 years and so far so good.

Salt: using salt instead of chemically obtained chlorine is a way more efficient way to keep the water bacteria free. A little elctrolyzer machine with low use of energy will just break the salt molecule and make the best of it producing aqueous sodium hydroxide and chlorine that will sanitize the water without the use of chemicals.

WASTE AND SUSTAINABILITY

When it comes to throwing away stuff the only really sustainable way to do it is, don't throw away. We all know it's impossible, but we can reduce to the minimum what we throw away.

Our best shot at a sustainable waste, here @Villa Vendicari, is the compost, which is located not far from the tree-house, where all biodegradable food can be piled.

Other than that we ensure to make it easy for the guests of the house to separate accurately all the waste, first home, then at the parking lot and finally at the waste.

CLEANING PRODUCTS AND SUSTAINABILITY

We recommend cleaning the house with biodegradable and natural products like vinegar, salt, lemon and the like.

We only use biodegradable toilet paper.

We recommend guests to use biodegradable shampoos and soaps. Wherever possible we will provide them.

We strongly recommend, either way, to use as little as possible of all the above.

SEWAGE SYSTEM AND SUSTAINABILITY

The house has a buried imhoff tank to treat the sewage.

Imhoff stands for Im Garten wohnen Wir.

It is a very sustainable way to treat sewage liquids and solids consists of a V-shaped settling compartment above a tapering sludge digestion chamber with gas vents. In the digestion chamber, the settled solids are anaerobically digested generating biogas.

Goes without saying that it is sustainable only if sustainably used. Which means avoiding chemicals and non biodegradable waste in the pipes by all means.

We regularly feed our pipes with biological enzymes that help digest liquid and solid waste in the sewage.

GARDEN AND SUSTAINABILITY

Tending to the garden in a sustainable way is the easiest thing, but it encompasses a renounce to fast growth, often bright colors and perceived order to the Western human eye.

We strive to ensure that any person working on our garden doesn't use any shortcut for faster growth or no growth at all.

Otherwise the basic idea behind our gardening is that it be edible. Wherever our planting is involved we have always used plants that can be eaten or used by us humans in that this nudges more spontaneous tending from our side.

Water use is key in our land. We have precious little and rain recycling is not nearly enough to take care of everything. All our plants are drought resistant and the lawn is of local grass than uses 5min of water per day only during the two hottest months of the summer.

Our family had a fantastic time at Villa Vendicari. A perfect mix of peace & privacy, with plenty to do nearby!! We will be back FOR SURE

Looking forward to another visit! Thank you for being such an excellent host. ☺️

My family stayed in the villa for one week in this spring 2015 and enjoyed every minute of it: the house light, stylish en open with a lovely sea view. Altought we had a late arrival, there was good communication with owner Gulglio and the gardener Salvo to sort things out. The extra house was and pool were perfect for our teenage kids. The villa is situated in the very pleasant and interesting south-east corner of Sicily. Pleasant beaches within a 10 minute reach. The beautiful towns of Noto, Regusa, Siracusa and the Etna witthin an our distance. Our boys even maid a pleasant scuba-dive at La Bella Isola near Toarmina. Definitely recommended, especially in the spring! Marc and family from Holland

We rented Villa Vendicari for three weeks in June. It is truly a great home and we had a fabulous time during our visit. The house is located in a peaceful country setting with views of the sea, but local towns are nearby if you feel like a night out (Noto is just 15 minutes away). The owner is gracious and kind, and the staff were very helpful and a pleasure to get to know. The house is very close to great beaches and hiking in the Vendicari nature reserve. There is so much to see and experience in the vicinity. We will definitely return. Amo Sicilia!

This is a beautiful and magical place. We enjoyed the outdoor space- views, pool, butterflies and many different areas to relax. The architecture is unique and comfortable. The host is very responsive and helpful. Our group had an amazing holiday. Thank you.

This is a wonderful home. We thoroughly enjoyed the location, views, architecture…the entire experience was lovely and magical. We don’t have any suggestions to make a future trip better because this one was perfect.

A beautiful house in a beautiful location. Inside the house all details are very accurate: nothing is missing, from the necessary to those extra things that make life easier during a holiday.
From Villa Vendicari you can easily reach many beautiful seaside locations and cities, so you can have a mix of cultural and leisure activities. Without forgetting that even a day at the Villa, with the swimming pool, the barbecue, the garden, can be a very enjoyable one.

e spent the last week with our girls in your villa in Vindicari. We would like to thank you for the possibility of staying in your place. The stay there was very pleasant for us and allowed for a real rest. The villa itself is unique, very aesthetic and we appreciate the care with which the interior is finished. Perhaps an even greater advantage is its location. We have the impression that if it was not for your place, we would get to know a completely different, less interesting Sicily. In your place, we have tasted what, in our opinion, Sicily has the best to offer. The garden, meadows and groves as well as the closeness the nature reserve turned out to be the greatest advantage of visiting the island.
The stay in your place took place at a time when we received bad news about the beginning of the war in Ukraine - a country that is very dear to us. It touched us a lot then and, of course, it still touches and concerns us. I think that also for this reason the memory of staying there will always be with us. I think we even left a piece of our hearts there actually. We just love your place. Thank you once again
And we wish you all the best

We vacationed at Villa Vendicari along with a group of our closest friends and family to celebrate our marriage. It was an absolutely magical experience. Our host, Guglielmo met us when we arrived, greeted us with the warmth of a true friend, and gave us an extensive and informative tour of the beautiful villa. Throughout our stay, he checked in regularly via text and made himself available for questions from each member of our group. The space is well equipped for cooking, reading, swimming, lounging, stargazing, and gathering indoors or outdoors. There are lots of comfy seating areas where we spent time relaxing and talking late into the night. The views of the tranquil garden landscape and expansive Mediterranean Sea are more gorgeous than the pictures can fully capture. We asked about a recommendation to have an in-home meal prepared, and his suggestion of Jennifer was a high point of an already amazing experience. The meal was incredible. She even shopped for provisions before we arrived so we could head straight from the airport to the villa and enjoy our first evening and morning without having to go shopping first. The trip, the space, and the gracious hosting surpassed our expectations, and we hope to come back to celebrate our 5th or 10th anniversary!

Noto is now on my list as super special places to return to.   You really have quite a spot.  And the design of the home and it’s placement on the land is outstanding.  If it’s your brainchild - congrats on having such wonderful design skills.   I am in the real estate business back in the US - so I recognize talent and great design when I come across it.  There is a simple, subtle elegance here that is unmistakable - and will leave a nice (positive) mark!

I stayed here for two weeks to write and just wind down - and I don't think I've stayed in a place more beautiful or inspiring in a long time - really spectacular. The house itself is chic, stylish, minimalist and has all mod cons, from coffee makers to hairdryers to every detail you'll need to cook a huge Sicilian meal. The sea is visible from the house, too, which is a huge added bonus. Olive trees, vineyards and orchards are everywhere surrounding the property and the spectacular Baroque town of Noto, is just a short drive away. I had come here to work but never expected to feel so relaxed and recharged by the end of the trip - and as someone who doesn't drive, we never once felt isolated. Guglielmo the owner was wonderful - friendly, fluent in English and available anytime (via phone or email) I needed to ask a question or had a request. I want to come back here for a month off season - most relaxing trip ever :))

We really had a wonderful time at the Villa Vendicari. It’s one of the most stunning places we ever stayed, a piece of architecture and design located in a quiet and awesome landscape, with a view to the sea and not far from nice beaches and the enchanting baroque cities like Noto and Modica. And the nearby Nature Reserve is great for jogging and walking.
There is a lot of space around the house, a garden with many different trees and a perfect pool and the tree house.
In the Villa you can find many excellent design details but it is also comfortable and cosy. The terrace under a big olive tree offers you a fantastic place for outdoor living.
Guglielmo is a welcoming and perfect host, the communication was very easy and he didn’t mind to adjust to our extra wishes . Also Salvo was very kind and gave us some good tips.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday and we can only recommend this little piece of paradise.

What a house! Light-flooded, round shapes and smooth surfaces (great to walk barefoot !).The scent of the Mediterranean garden pervades every corner of it and the views are endless. Guglielmo is a wonderful host who makes you fall in love with Sicily. You should follow every single suggestion – especially the one of buying fresh fish right from the boat at the Portopalo harbour! We will be back!

The house is very nice and comfortable and suitable even for many persons. The garden is large, calm and nice. You can make use of all the fruits and herbs and just relax. The pool is also very nice, even long enough to swim.
The owner, Guglielmo Parasporo, is very helpful with everything, answers immediately to questions, and there is also a gardener, Salvo, who comes regularly to see if there is s.th which you need or where you need help.
So, we had a wonderful vacation and can recommend the place.

We spent a wonderful week in Guglielmo’s villa. The place is a beautiful modern villa with a minimalistic styling, surrounded by a wildlife garden. Despite the villa being modern it has the feeling of a very comfortable, cosy rural cottage. My girls loved the garden counting lizards and insects and of course playing in the tree house and pool. The villa is situated in a perfect position for nature lovers, as well as art lovers. It is a short drive to Baroque towns with their endless beauty such as Ragusa, Modica, Siracusa and Noto or the nature park of Vendicari or the wild beach Calamosche. Guglielmo is a great host, although he couldn’t meet us personally the telephone contact was very good, and Salvo (the gardener) was there for us if we needed anything. We would definitely stay at the Villa again when we return to Sicily.

Hi Guglielmo, we had a fantastic holiday, thank you. We would love to come back there one day. Sicily is such a fascinating place that I would love to see more.

Excellent place and host! The eco-friendly villa has a stylish, minimalistic and yet cozy interior (just like the photos), equipped with everything you'd need. You can tell that everything has been thought out down to the last details. Excellent for spending time relaxing: drink some wine in the terrace, chill in the tree house, soak in the swimming pool, watch the sunset on the roof, or even pick herbs and fruits in the garden. There are also different natural reserves, beaches and towns accessible by car, making it the perfect location for a vacation home. The host, Guglielmo, is also a great communicator. Quick in response and perfect English, making check in very easy. I can't recommend it enough!

From the moment you enter the property of the Vindicari Villa you know you are in for a treat. Two gorgeous architecturally designed villas curve either side of a 100 year old olive tree that all look out over Vendicari nature reserve and out to sea. I’ve been to Italy many, many times but this stay in Sicily topped them all! As an interior designer and stylist the stunning interiors and architectural curves were a complete delight. The kitchen and living area of the main villa were a fabulous central meeting point and as someone who loves to cook there was everything I needed to make incredible meals from the stunning local produce (Siracusa Market a MUST visit). Evenings were spent with dusk apperativo on the rooftop looking out over fields to the sea... Days were spent swimming in the nearby Vendicari Nature Reserve (walk along the pretty timber boardwalk to the sand) or wandering down the villas garden path to the stunning swimming pool at the end of the garden... I highly recommend a local lunch right there at the Vendicari Nature Reserve where stone huts are unpacked daily to create an incredible lunch right under the olive trees. Not that you ever really want or need to leave the villa but if you must... Nearby Unesco World Heritage listed Noto took my breath away. I also recommend popping into one of the many Agritourismo dotted along the coast (Guglielmo has great local secret spots listed in guide book). Also worth a visit is Ragusa, Modica and Calla Mosce (for the stunning tuna dishes served daily). Top that off with a luxurious homecoming bath for tired feet in the master bedroom looking out over those stunning views.... Needless to say I never wanted to leave... Guglielmo was an incredible host and should be super proud of not only the wondrous home he has created but the way he makes his guests feel so at home in luxurious style... I almost didn’t want to write this review as I know this little gem is incredible for the price point and everything it provides will book out (URL HIDDEN) much so I’ve already booked my stay next year... Grazie Mille Guglielmo... CAN NOT wait to return to your stunning Villa! ... An incredible trip in a truly memorable home... 5 stars from me! :) xx

The Villa Vendicari is even more breathtaking than the fotos are suggesting. The building is situated on a very large private area with al lot of big trees. The villas - we had both houses - have an impressive and interesting architecture. We spent there marvellous days  and felt almost at home immediately. You can see the sea from the terrace (even better from the charming roof terrace). Some of Sicily’s best beaches are in the immediate vicinity and the Vendicari nature reserve is almost at your front door.
Last but not least there is the very sympathetic owner Guglielmo: he is always very responsive and cares really about his guests. Whenever we had a question or a little problem he helped us immediately.

It's very beautiful and very minimal. I think the thing about organic minimalism is that it's something you have to be in to feel how soothing it is. The pictures do not do this place justice! It's like the Japanese esthetic where if the planes and colors are toned down, you look more at texture and subtle color variation, and really it affects you more. It's like how when you are in a natural cave, you feel different when in different textural places - where there are lots of choppy rocks, it feels different than in a room where the rock has been smoothed down by centuries of water, or different than a room that has calcium deposits dripping from the ceiling, etc. It's all the same type of material, but it affects you very differently.

The villa is in a beautiful location, very peaceful and tranquil. We were a party of 8 and the two villas worked well for us. We loved the contemporary architecture. We enjoyed all the different outside spaces, plenty of quiet spots if you want to curl up with a book. Guglielmo was a very helpful host, easy to contact He also booked restaurants and taxis for us as our Italian is rather limited! Overall a very enjoyable holiday.

We really enjoyed being in the house. We loved the location, the beaches, Noto, Planeta winery, and especially Modica. We enjoyed spending lazy afternoons and evenings by the pool. We especially loved our birthday meal at Ristorante Crocifisso. Thank you for your recommendation. The food and wine choices were excellent.  We all visited Planeta, and really enjoyed the experience. We learned a lot about the history of Sicilian wine, and we loved the local muscat and of course the Nero d'Avola.
The house was lovely and very well equipped, and perfect for us all. We had a small problem with ants in the kitchen area, but coped pretty well with getting rid of them, and I guess this is inevitable in the country.

Complimenti ancora.

What a gem. I have a great respect for people investing time and money in this. The result speaks space and purpose. And to me also beauty and thoughtfulness. It is calm and pleasant and suiting, to be honest I could have less in the rooms. What is beautiful is how the architects worked with the entrances and the right sizes of it, the daylight and sun light in general. Bravo

Guglielmo has created an incredible architectural and natural experience throughout this magnificent property. We loved everything about the house, from the sliding windows, fireplace and rooftop terrace to the smell of rosemary along the garden path. Guglielmo went above and beyond for us. He was always available to answer questions or provide recommendations on where to go and most importantly, where to eat. Our son fell ill towards the end of the holiday and Guglielmo was there to help, talking to doctors for us and providing advice on where to take our son to get treated. Guglielmo and the property are a one in a million package and I would highly recommend!!!

Peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings, sitting on the roof terrace watching the sunset. Playing football games in the pool! Well stocked kitchen, sharp knives (though blood spilled on first day before we realised how sharp!). Herbs in the garden. Helpful & charming staff. Good showers

This holiday was awesome! Unfortunately we didn't met Guglielmo this time, but he helped us via phone as good as he can and was available every minute. So the house is perfect, even better than on the pictures. We really didn't want to leave there anymore. :) We had both houses and both were very tasteful furnished. Nice kitchen. Nice terrace. We slept in the bed like in heaven. So still very in love with the nature and the house and the beautiful garden. The pool side is so nice as well. From the garden you can see the ocean and so much nature that you can relax 100%. We will definitely will come back. And hopefully we meet Guglielmo next time. Highly recommended! Come there and enjoy this beautiful piece of nature.

A really unique place - ideal for our holiday with 4 small kids. At the same time a contemporary and cozy place and perfectly organized. We where super well received and had great information from Guglielmo. We hope very much to be able to come back :-)

Oh, how I love this place. It seems rare to see a space that's inarguably minimal, yet at the same time, is warm and not in the least uptight.

An hour's drive from the airport of Catania, this is a spacious, modern, clean and beautifully decorated house, with fantastic views to the sea and the nature reserve of Vendicari. Surrounded by fields of carob and olive groves, the beautiful beaches of Vendicari are only five minutes away, with crystal clear water. The Baroque city of Noto is also extremely close, easy to reach for night out. In the other direction, Marzamemmi and Pachino are also within easy reach.
There is air conditioning throughout the house, which can sleep two families. The house itself is newly built, by the current owner. Sitting outside to eat, surrounded by the scent of jasmine or sitting by the pool, it is a perfect place to unwind and make the best of everything that Eastern Sicily has to offer.

Very modern villa generally well equipped and in a great location. Very friendly and cooperative owner and Salvo and Cerrada who were on site to welcome us were most helpful. Villa spotlessly clean. Could do with a little more furnishing  inside the villa. This would not be an issue in Summer when one would spend most time outside where there is plenty of seating.

Faboulous. The house, the scenario and the places are fantastic. The house it is very modern, with everything you may need inside and in a very quiet place. The sea side it is one of the best in the South of Italy, the water it is very clean and worm. All around it is plenty of very attractive towns to visit: Noto, RAgusa, Siracusa, Scicli, Modica, Marzamemi...
On holiday we like to stay in beautiful house to relax yourself and enjoy the company of our friends and so far, in many years, this one it is for sure the best house we had ever been.
For sure we go back there soon. Thanks so much.

We went to sicily during the first two weeks of june. We were two families with children between 6 and 10. the house was great. There is very few furniture in the house but you wont miss anything because you will be staying outside under the pergola. During this time of the year you wont need the ac. Our children loved the pool and we did too, especially because it a little bit away from the house so the children could yell and sceam and it dosnot bother anyone. If you go there your children should be able to swim. On one side you will enjoy beeing "far out" on the other hand you have to buy everything in the supermarket. For a bakery you have to go about ten kilometers but that didnot matter to us. The garden was hudge, compared to that there is only a small but large enough area with plants and gras. In the evening you will love sitting on the roof with you nero d'avola and look at the stars. If you want to go out for the night you can go to Marzamemmi where life starts at about ten o'clock in the evening. We had a great vacation!

Hello!
We had a fantastic time in Vendicari, we were sad to leave the house and beautiful Sicily.
We have tried to take as much care as possible of the house which, by the way, is very well conceived as far as air air currents are concerned.
I would just add a few cupboards and wardrobes in the rooms, and a curtain in the bathtub.

We took this villa in Sicily totally out of season assuming that we would have found great weather for walks and sun bathing... Well, we got lucky, I swam pretty much everyday and I can tell you that the Sicilian sea is much warmer in early November than the Northern sea in August. Vendicari natural reserve is breathtaking and so are the cities nearby Noto, Modica and I especially liked Scicli. A little further away is Siracusa, which is also a must see.
The villa itself is amazing, it has a chimney and heating system, which we have looked, but not used ;) it's spacious and generally super cool. Actually, if I had to point out a draw back that's exactly it, too cool. Owners said furnishing is not completed and I would say that definately, at least for the winter, more cozyness is needed.
The garden is fantastic, we would walk out before dinner and get the herbs for coocking and the fruit directly from it! Quite an amazing esperience for city people like us.
There is one draw back, they are building nearby, and it's not beautiful. I must say no noise or nuisance whatsoever, maybe for the distance, I don't know. But at an aestetical level it's a shame to see something like this in such a beautiful natural reserve, unlike this villa which, looked at from the sea shore, literally melts with nature, so we don't feel accomplices to that botch.
Just a little itch in an otherwise amazing experience that we will recommend to everyone!
