Plus: Location was very good, steps to metro, bakeries and grocery stores, we also walked to many places. Nearby park and playground handy for kids. Quiet and safe. Michelle was very nice and helpful. A bit of a tight fit for 3 but would have been fine for 2. Don't plan on using the laundry machine unless absolutely necessary since clothes take 3 days to dry. Only cons were the staircase and pretty bad mold in the bathroom. Also TV did not work very well, fortunately there is wireless so you can watch shows on your computer instead. Might consider it again but not definitely.
Absolutely perfect. Amazing. Would live there if I could. Cities Reference made everything so easy and Michelle was delightful and so helpful. Can't wait to return.
We found this little apt very suitable for our needs. The location, just around the corner from Place des Vogues, is fantastic....the apt itself is very quiet ( a must for us!) ...the bed(s) were very comfortable...the kitchen well equipped and functional...the washer worked well...the bathroom shower was fine...and we loved the "provencal decor" and all the windows onto the court yard. We would be happy to stay here again!
Beautiful loft apartment. Renovations to the exterior were happening during our stay, so the outside of the building did not leave a good impression but the interior of the apartment was more than expected. Kitchen is not large but manageable and the tub could be modified to have a shower curtain to prevent splashing when showering - other than those points I would recommend this apartment and also stay again. There were two couples and thought it was comfortable. Michelle was very pleasant and friendly as well.
A most charming, conveniently located little flat, two seconds from the metro and minutes from the Louvre and the lively Halles neighbourhood. Clean, safe, and very quiet as the other reviewer mentioned. The host was very responsive and available to our email questions and in getting us checked in and out. The four flights of stairs were a bit intimidating at first with luggage but were no problem on a daily basis. We would definitely stay here again.
The apartment is nice, well located in Montparnasse where many restaurants, coffeehouses and shops are. We felt at home there. The only drawback was that we were woken up at 7.30 nearly every morning because of renevations in the apartment next door. The area seems safe and the building as well.
very good location. super supermarket just arround the corner. nice sunny terrace, good introduction at arrival, second key available, immidiate response by telefone, secure building. simple furniture (IKEA), mirror goldplated = unusable, Wifi functions,
bad: refridgerator stinks awful, some dirty spots in the apartment need white paint, handshower needs wallfixing,
summery: i will come back.
For a young couple or a few young friends this would be a good apartment. The bed was very average and the pull out appalling for an older person. It was small but that's Paris and the bathroom needs a complete clean as does most of the apartment. It appears clean enough but look closer and it's not. The kitchen is set up passably however the toaster oven needs a good clean as well. The washer worked well but there is only a line above the shower and the clothes took days to dry even though the weather was in the low 20's.
The location is fabulous and if you know about Paris streets and numbers it is easy to find. It is max, 5 mins walk from metro Arts et Metiers. All up it was a part of the journey although like one other reviewer I agree that it is a budget flat.
The stairs almost made me cancel the whole thing and leave the deposit but once we settled in all was fine except for the beds. If they had been good the stay would have been much better.
The person who originally met us spoke very limited English and told us a few incorrect things. It was disappointing that the agent was unable to get there on that day. However, we survived but I would say go elsewhere if you want something a little above basic.
The size was adequate for 3 people. There were insufficient sheets and pillow cases,(only 2) No soap in the bathroom.
Fresh sets of matching sheets, pillow cases and blankets would significantly improve this accommodation.
Additional lighting would also be helpful.
Overall it was a great place to stay. The neighborhood is wonderful and makes you really feel parisian. The apartment was close to the metro and there is a grocery store around the corner. The apartment itself was small but adequate for two people. The small bedroom was cozy and the enormous windows were fantastic. Nice and quiet. The only reason it doesnt get a 5 star is that it is a little shabbier than the pictures indicate. It could use a little paint in other words. Nothing dirty at all, just a little shabby. I would still stay there again in a heartbeat. Great value and a nice place.
Apartment's owner Comments
Thank you! I'm going there right now and I'll double check on the paint and general issues, I'll get this fixed asap. Thanks for the heads up.
---
Ok I see what you mean. Some things are fixable, there is some peeling in the kitchen and in the lobby, we'll fix that asap. Some things can take time, for example the building's stairways also start having a little peeling, that was done ca 6 years ago and I'm not sure the rest of the building owners are ready to redo it just yet. The sink in the kitchen and the bathroom indeed are old, but we don't want to change them because they are valuable, restoring them is apparently something nobody we've asked for is able to do. So that won't change at least for the moment.
Thanks for your feedback!
my wife and I stayed over New Years - everything was great - the location is great - Rue du Cherche Midi is a lovely street. There is a great restaurant right next to the apartment - Le Bistrot Landais - very helpful staff who speaks english. There are several small grocers nearby and a large grocery on the next street accross the street from the Vaneau metro stop, which was very convenient for us. the apartment was on the forth floor, which was only an issue for carrying in the luggage but that was just a few minutes. otherwise, the small kitchen worked well for us to cook a few meals, eat breakfast before site-seeing. Overall, very glad we rented this place. Thanks.
This apartment is in an excellent area of Paris. For the price, it's a great find. Although the apartment is lacking in character and style and could use a better stocking of kitchen items that would make it easier to use. The stairs are a nightmare and not easy to get up and down, especially if carrying anything slightly heavy or awkward (like a suitcase). It was clean and warm and bright with an excellent shower. I would recommend it to my friends and i would stay here again if my budget was tight.
Flat is very conveniently located in Paris Marais area with restaurants, food stores and boulangerie very close. Quiet street. Well equipped flat, good storage and ample room. Apartment decor would be enhanced by a few posters on the otherwise bare walls. Please note that there is WiFi but no land line. Staff very prompt ,pleasant and accomodating. Would rent again.
What I said about the apartment and the quartier are very objective: it would be very difficult not to appreciate both enormously. This part of the 14th is a revelation I have to say. It is a real, bourgeois, not bobo, not touristy, neighborhood, with good restaurants, and nice walks - and the bookstore around the corner is wonderful! I have lived in the 16th, 7th, 6th, 11th, and 10th, and occasionally stayed in the 13th and 18th, and I think that Alesia hits the right balance.
Thank you again for your help with the apatment and for contributing to a wonderful stay in Paris.
Thank you also for your kind offer for a discount, I think that the next time in Paris will be during the summer or next year.
Your site is super!
This is an amazing little apartment, very well-kept, charming, full of light and joy that I wholeheartedly recommend. It is great for 1-2 people and possibly a small family, and it has anything you might possible need for a short stay. The living room with its double-hight windows is very relaxing and the small bedroom upstairs is quiet and cozy. The neighborhood is more than convenient, it is thoroughly pleasant, with good small restaurants, shops, food markets, and hidden architectural surprises. Metro, buses, and, at a short walk, the tramway will get you anywhere in Paris, with the extra bonus of staying in non-tourist neighborhood. I had one of my most pleasant stays in Paris - one of dozens short stays over the last 8 years - and since I know the city pretty well having spent a good part of my life there, I can say that both the apartment and the quartier are fantastic! Thank you to cities reference for making my stay and work easy and bright!
The Apartement is very nice an cosy. The location is really great - we even did not have to use the metro every day - Louvre was about 10 min walk from us! The apartement is good equiped and clean. The kitchen was very useful! The Host was helpful if we had any questions and easy to deal with. All windos look in to the small yard - so it is really silent at night - even if the window is opened. A nice place for a couple!
`Super apartment with great facilities and in a very convenient location. However, the stairs are a nightmare. If you can handle that minor drawback you will have a very enjoyable stay here!!!
We have just came back to Brazil and we were very happy with our vacation.
The stay in France was very special. Paris really is an amazing city!
We would like to thank the hospitality and friendliness which you welcomed us.
We are very delighted with the city and we intend to return many times. Paris seems to be a city that can be visited numerous times and always be surprising
Yes, I am enjoying the apartment greatly, it is amazing, it has a light, cheerful energy that got me from the moment I walked in, and is carrying me through! You are lucky to have it! I also love the neighborhood that I had never explored when I lived in Paris, and I am thrilled by the architecture, especially the 20s and 30s buildings around here.
Mikaela was very nice and helpful, and I am very glad I made the decision to get the apartment: thanks!! I will definitely recommend it to any living soul I know who travels to Paris!
Tout va tres bien et j'adore l'appartement et le quartier, super!
Wonderful apartment! Excellent location, just two blocks from the Metro and RER train lines. 10-minute ride to the heart of Paris. One block from a wonderful street market. Neighborhood felt very safe. Plenty of space to spread out, very airy with lots of natural light. Sound-proof bedroom for a great night's sleep. Small kitchen with all the amenities to fix a quick breakfast or even a full dinner. It was very helpful to have a washing machine (though no dryer). Highly recommend!!
great location- walking distance to all the attractions, plus close to metro stops. bigger than paris hotel rooms. comfortable bed. we enjoyed our stay- thank you!
Everything was fantastic and it was great coordinating with you and Michelle. We're back in NYC now and it was such a pleasure staying in the apartment in Paris
The apartment was ideal for our stay in Paris. It was very comfortable, light and airy, had a pleasing ambiance, was well located for transport and had everything we needed and more (we didn’t use the washing machine or the TV). The wi-fi was always available and worked well with our net book.
The patisserie next door was a bonus and within a few minutes walk were shops and good inexpensive restaurants.
We felt secure at all times in the apartment and in the surrounding area so returning in the dark was not a problem, even though the nearby café was lively until well past midnight. Noise from outside was quite prominent and as we are used to sleeping in complete silence, we were glad we had taken our earplugs with us.
Our only criticisms are minor: there was no high level mounting for the shower so we had to hold it and there was no shower curtain. The bathroom basin was very high (to accommodate the washing machine below) therefore awkward to use and the built-in plug didn’t work very well. Frosted glass or a blind in the bathroom window would have given some privacy while using the facilities. And in the kitchen area a dish drainer would have helped! It would seem that previous occupants had not reported breakages as there was only one useable cup but we had our camping mug so used that.
Being five floors up the lift was a definite plus, as was the balcony, and all in all we would recommend this apartment for couples of all ages.
The apartment was everything that we expected and more. It really made our stay perfect.
The location is great...easy walk to Montmartre, shops and restaurants. The metro is one block away and most highlights in the city can be reached within 15 minutes. The bakery at the foot of the building was a plus as was the Velib station across the street. We felt safe walking at any time of the day.
The apartment itself, was a perfect blend of old and new. The original details such as the wood beams and the fireplace have been maintained during a recent renovation that added a good kitchen, bathroom and AC. The terrace was spectacular; we enjoyed breakfast outside most days. All in all, it was very comfortable, charming and tastefully outfitted.
The owner was very easy and professional to deal with. I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to any of my friends and family.
The apartment in Paris, on a nice upper floor with views of sky and the tetoirs,
was in a pretty and chic location, on the Rue de Martignac with its spired Baslique.
Its tree shaded garden, nice bistro and a lot of little day time cafes with delicious goodies
made the area extra special.
The apartment was perfect for us; Lovely spacious living room, bathroom and master bedroom.
Kitchen also sort of nice, a little too non attrezato.
Second room tiny but ok.
The woman, Zora, who met us was nice and helpful and we gave her a mancha.
Monsieur Cole exacts
strict computations of energy use before and after, then
subtracted then multiplied by point something depending on the utility.
Very impressive.
In the end who ever likes leaving Paris but leaving this lovely apartment felt like too soon.
INTERNET - good; KITCHEN - dreadful. Tiny, poky and hard to clean.cooking equipment inadequate. Cutlery and crockery are stored in the living room which is VERY inconvenient.; BEDROOM - stuffy, cupboard-like alcove/loft. Too hot. Access to double bed from one side only. Bed linen is coarse and cheap. Owner needs to take a trip to Ikea.<br ; LIVING ROOM - heating is entirely inadequate. Windows are single-glazed only, so we were lucky that our time there was very mild (14 degrees C). Winter visitors would prob spend a lot of extra money on heating because apartment is draughty and badly insulated.; BATHROOM - dreadful. Wall next to bath is rotten and makes showering impossible.Baths only.; LIGHTING throughout apartment was dim and totally inadequate; PUBLIC TRANSPORT ACCESS - excellent OWNER REPLIES I guess you can't make everybody happy, Rosalind. I wonder how comes you post this six months after your stay and not when prompted, feel free to contact me directly. You are the second Australian disappointed about the place. Please allow me to spend a word about this. Paris is a crowded place, we have nowhere near the space you guys have in your beautiful land. Kitchens are small, bathrooms are small... unless you double your budget or more this is as good as it gets. KITCHEN. The description says 'small' and there are pictures, this is the size we have for kitchens in Paris for apartments of these dimensions. We have bought some more pots, pans, cutlery. Pots and pans are stored in the kitchen, the rest is stored in the living/dining room. At the end of the day this is where you are supposed to eat.; BEDROOM. Stuffy? There is just the bed and the window and a bedside table. Too hot? Didn't you just say the heating was inadequate? Couldn't you just open the window? This is confusing at best. I'm afraid bed linen is IKEA already, not the cheaper ones though. LIVING ROOM. Let me spend a word on the single glaze complaint here, your countryman below was complaining about the sink for example. We are talking about a historical building here. The 4mts high winter balcony in iron and glass built at the end of the 800s has a great value and the mairie of Paris would thankfully sue me if I dared change that with double graze plastic and alluminium windows. The same goes for the sinks and the bath tub, they have been used by Fernand Leger over a century ago, we are talking one of the most important painters in world art history. I beg whoever would rather have silicon and alluminium to just ask me tips before booking, there is plenty of more modern alternatives on Paris Reference website. Rosalind, never we've charged anybody extra money for heating and you are one of them since you used an equivalent of 100 euro in utilities for a total rent cost of 500! You were indeed a winter visitor in January. Why all these contradictions? BATHROOM We have put tiles behind the bath tub and the sink, it is true it used to peel off every 4 to 6 months, but now this is all set. Mind you, there is a shower fix, only it is best used sitting. Rosalind, we both know you created a leakage from the shower to downstairs. We've dared telling you but never charged you anything. A little more attention on your part would have saved us this conversation I think or our silent acceptance of your damages. This is your way to thank us for the trouble. Well... thank you.
The apartment was quiet with the windows closed (despite the lively street below), scenic (the balcony is a major plus), well stocked (iron, washing machine, TV, internet, towel-drying rack), and complete with the amenities we were looking for (bathtub, lift, coded front entry doors). It's a block away from the Blanche metro stop (a relatively simple stop) and the Moulin Rouge, and an easy walk to Montmartre (and its excellent restaurants, cafes, bakeries, shops, and clubs). The apartment has been recently revovated and it shows - new bath/kitchen fixtures and appliances, A/C in each rooom, double-armored door, nice futon bed with down comforter, and new safe electical switches and outlets.
Very minor complaints: the bathtub/shower, amazingly large, could use a shower curtain or other means of keeping water off the walls, floors, ceiling, and cabinet; the wireless seemed to want to connect with only one device at a time - we brought two computers and two iPhones - and the connection was very spotty if more than one was connected (but was strong and solid otherwise); the washing machine's cycle was very long (90 minutes?) for even a very small load... all of which simply meant planning ahead and adjusting.
This place was a great value and a great place to base our first Paris visit. The owners were accommodating and spoke excellent English.
Owner Replies: Thank you so much for your kind feedback! With regard to the comment on the lengthy 90-minute washing machine cycle, please note that there are also two short cycles. The shortest one actually lasts 32 minutes and is sufficient for normal laundry (i.e. with no particular stains). You can access it by moving the arrow on "32". For more details, please review the notice of use.
This is a charming, well-decorated and well-equipped apartment with everything one needs for a comfortable short stay in Paris. The location is close to many metro stations as well as regular buses, and an easy walk to Montmartre. Our stay was a pleasure, we loved the big balcony and the cute bathtub.
The hosts were very professional, trustworthy and friendly, making everything exceedingly clear and easy for us. I highly recommend this apartment.
Excellent apartment and location! We didn't wanted to move from the flat! very cousy and everything new and in very good conditions.
The owners are woderfull also! I highly recomend this place!
Appartment really good. But owner is a swindler. He took Euro 700.00 security deposit in cash. But didn't come for check out to return deposit. He also doesn't respond on phone calls or any messages.
BE AWARE, AVOID THIS OWNER. Why doesn't Paris Tourism anything against such people. In my opinion a case for the police.

Appartment really very good. But owner is a swindler. He took a securety deposit in cash. But didn't come for check out to return deposit. He also doesn't respond on phone calls or any messages.
BE AWARE, AVOID THIS OWNER. WEBSITE NOTE: We're still looking into this problem. This apartment was previously managed by a company called koikecesoi sarl, directed by Cedric Nait. Mr Nait claims his company closed in the meanwhile and doesn't know what happened with this rental. This apartment is now run by another company which seems correctly registered in Paris, France. We are registering this issue with the French authorities and hope to have feedback asap. UPDATE: We have rented this apartment again with the new management company and we didn't have issues
Quaint, quiet, relaxing apartment on the edge of the 6th. Just a stroll from good eats, La Grande Epicerie and morning croissants each morning from the infamous Eric Kayser. Only wish there was a little more closet storage and an over, but appartment comes equipped with functionable kitchen, washing machiine, internet and a suprisingly LARGE shower for Paris standards. Feel like you are actually living like a Parisian and book rue Mayet.
The apartment has a Great Location, basically across from Notre Dame. Good spot, very close to the Metro Station. Some good spots nearby, both touristy and more local. However the person that received us, Cedric Nait was terrible, he arrived over 40mins late on the 1st day, kept saying he was nearby and showed up with a huge delay. Secondly we had agreed with him to come to the Studio on the departure day at 8a.m., he NEVER DID! My parents who where also staying in the Studio almost missed their flight back to the U.S. waiting to give the keys to this guy, in any case since he never showed up, they had to leave the keys inside. Such a pity, since the place is nice and has a really good location, but a terrible service. Website replies: We really appreciate your feedback, ever more so since you had a bad experience. We would like to inform you that, as it happens, we're not working with Cedric anymore and we really hope to be working with you again and show you our goodwill we'll offer you a discount on your next travel with us.
This apartment was in a fantastic location, and it was lovely. Staying there was very comfortable, and we had a great time.
However, the price of this apartment was higher than other comparable apartments that got booked much quicker.
Great location, clean, and very hospitable host landlord. It was indeed tiny, but very perfect if you are planning to spend the majority of your time touristing. I would recommend it and would stay there again.
we stayed there for four days and we definitely had a wonderful stay. the apartment is cozy, spacious and full of light. very good location, lots of good eating and drinking in the vicinity, 50 meters to the metro station. we will definitely come again
House tastefully furnished, with very large living spaces. Very good appliances. The jacuzzi is wondeful and wifi area is incredible fast. The best apartment i have ever rented. I will be back next year.
4 rue Saintonge was absolutely perfect-- we could not have hoped for a better home base for our Paris trip. The apartment was very clean and modern, and stylishly furnished, in a very charming old building in the heart of the Marais. An excellent location, and the people at Paris Reference were extremely helpful when it came to meeting us at the apartment when we arrived, and making sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.
