Apartment Owner's Notes and Description
"Truly Trastevere - Studio della Scala" is a perfect getaway for those who want to live the quintessential 'Trastevere' experience. Cozy, intimate, and very Roman!Located in the heart of Trastevere, on the second floor of a typical historic XVII century building. Surprisingly silent (set on a pedestrian street, its windows and balcony leading out to the courtyard) the studio has been renovated a few years back (maintaining its characteristic charm, of course!) and is very well looked after. Upon entering you'll find yourself in a small corridor, then an open space living room with (working!) fire place, a double sofa bed, table and chairs. In an area separated from the main part is the 'bedroom' area with double bed. On the other side of the room, there's a bathroom (with bathtub) leading out to a small sunny balcony (facing the courtyard and equipped with chairs and a small table)) Exposed wood-beam ceiling, real parquet flooring, a tiny but well equipped kitchenette, a TV & DVD-Set, a Microwave, Washing Machine, Air conditioner, independent heating, Wi-fi Internet, Towels and Sheets, it's all there, as well as books for you to read, maps, information on the city.
Air conditioning keeps the apartment nice and cool in the summer while the fireplace and bathtub provide special charm during the colder months!
The neighborhood:
Trastevere is a historic neighborhood just across the river from the more conventional "Centro storico" of Rome. The Tiber river and two of Trastevere's most famous squares, Piazza Trilussa and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, are each only about a 2 minute walk from the studio, and crossing one of the many bridges you'll be at Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon in no time (less than 30 minutes by foot). Other sites such as the Vatican (about 40 minutes by foot or an easy bus ride), Castel S. Angelo and the Colosseum are also within easy reach.
The neighborhood used to be "blue-collar", and still today there's only small houses (most of them dating back to the XVII century) and cobblestone streets. It's what you imagine Rome to be: narrow streets, old little houses, Romantic piazzas (with warm orange street lights at night!), little cafes and restaurants, Roman lifestyle and of course (especially during high season) some tourists (how could they miss out on such a gem!). It's a nice mixture of 'real' and 'touristy' Rome, and definitely very picturesque. There's also a lot of cultural events happening in the neighborhood (exhibitions, small movie theaters and theaters), and interesting little unconventional shops all around.

We stayed at the Scala Studio in the beginning of our honeymoon. The studio is very, very well located! We were able to walk everywhere. There are local markets for produce, meat and cheese close by, and most historical and tourist spots are walking distance. The neighborhood is lively at night if you want to go out but not disruptive if you want to sleep. The place is small but the size didn't bother us at all considering the price and the location. The kitchen was the smallest kitchen we had and a little challenging to cook in but it was definitely manageable. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were a little flat. We had no issues whatsoever with noise when we wanted to sleep. Laura was available if I needed her.

Really awesome apartment! Cozy, yet comfortable with a great lay-out to maximize the space, very Roman feel, and we loved the exposed beams in the ceiling! The kitchen is super-small but totally convenient for fixing simple meals. There's a nice little balcony off the back (accesed through the bathroom). The bed area was very comfortable. Laura was very easy to communicate with, and even arranged pick-up from the airport and helped us find a car service when we left. We felt totally at home in the space. Trastevere is a lively neighborhood, especially at night, with lots of bars, restaurants, and tourists, and though we didn't spend much time there, it was easy to walk from there to many other places of interest. Most importantly, the way the apartment is situated allows you to escape the noise at night and kit's not at all an issue. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and recommend this space to others, in particular those who like to socialize with other travelers. Thanks!

Great location. Perfect for a couple of nights. Perhaps a little on the petite side if there are more than 2 of you but for two it was perfect. This unit was very liveable, although a bit rustic. It is in a very nice area with plenty of very good restaurants. A bit removed from many of the major sites, but a little walking will really pay off.

This is a lovely flat in an excellent location: right in the heart of Trastevere with cafes, restaurants, bars and boutiques nearby. Via della Scala is a cute street during the day right by a local church. On weekends, the streets completely transform into a thriving night scene, with people literally flooding the streets out of bars, cafes and restaurants. The flat is quiet though, as it faces away from the street. We really loved the neighborhood, found the food nearby excellent, and found it easy to get anywhere in the city either by foot or bus. The apartment looks just like in the photos. Very small kitchen, but would be serviceable for cooking if you wanted to (we only did 2 times as there were so many great options for eating out close-by) The only complaint was that the shower water didn't get super hot, even though it had a massive water heater, but this may have just been our own inability to adjust the shower. Place is perfect for 2. The apartment isn't especially bright, but it is warm and comfortable. It has a bathroom window that goes out a door to a small balcony and a single living room window. Laura greeted us and showed us around. They let us leave a bag in the apartment late into the day too, as we had a late flight. Excellent hosts and wonderful 3 nights in Rome! Thanks.
