Apartment Owner's Notes and Description
Via dei Ciancaleoni is a small and quiet street, very typical, in the heart of Rione Monti, one of now increasingly rare areas of Rome which preserve intact the atmosphere and the charm and the old traditions. In addition to all the major stores and services, the area offers the possibility of a pleasant walk through the still numerous artisan shops.
Ciancaleoni apartment is located less than a minute walk from the subway station and is a strategic starting point to reach the monuments and major sights in Rome.
Upon entering the apartment you will find immediately the care and dedication that the owners bring to make your stay pleasant and comfortable.

We liked the apartment. The place is quiet. Metro close by. The main attractions close by.
The roof terrace is perfect for evening relaxation. Stairs to the top of a very narrow.
The room is small, but to stop for one week - is sufficient.
I recommend.

This apartment was cute and in a nice location. The roof terrace was a bonus. It seemed a little bit run down - the electrics had been fixed with masking tape for example. Also due to the lack of space it was difficult to store anything unless you can be bothered to move furniture around to reach the wardrobe. I'd recommend this apartment for a younger (relatively fit) couple who want to stay a week or less in Rome.

Absolutely loved this apartment! Loved watching the shadows of the swallows as the sun rose, listening to the piano music from a nearby apartment, smelling the wonderful aroma of wood smoke from the pizza oven below, sipping strong coffee in the morning & grappa at night on the terrace. The only reason we would hesitate to book this apartment again is that we like to cook & would probably look for an apartment with a slightly better equipped kitchen area if we were staying for longer than a week.

Hi,
We have just returned home after a wonderful week in Rome (despite the heat!) We enjoyed apartment #380 for many reasons - the roof terrace of course but also being able to open the wide windows & let in the sounds of the street and the aroma of the wood burning pizza oven from the trattoria below.
We really love the Monti area & would like to stay there again next year for two weeks (possibly end of June/beginning July).

First impression: stairway is dirty. Even if it is a common area, it should be cleaned for clients. The apartment is ok. But... The beds were hard. Orthopedic you say? The shower curtain needs changing. The fan over the stove should be cleaned. The terrace was a good point beacause Rome is so hot and the apartment so tiny but... Why all these dead plants? Plus it could have been cleaned. not filty but not cleaned either.
Apartment's owner Comments
Reply from the owner:
(1) We have arranged for monthly cleaning of the stairway.
(2) We have replaced both spring mattresses with brand new lattice mattresses.
(3) The shower curtain has been replaced.
(4) The fan over the stove has been cleaned.
(5) Some of the plants died because not all clients watered them during the summer. The situation is now getting better thanks to the more frequent winter rains.
(6) We have asked the cleaning lady (who cleans the apartment every-time a new client enters, about once a week) to do a more careful job.
(7) Sorry but I have not being able to do anything to fix the hot Rome summer climate.

Good apartment for max young (fourth floor) two persons for a short stay. Good location - walking distance to most of the tourist attractions. Nice roof terrace however without an attractive view.
Answer by the owner:
The last comment sounds a bit arbitrary to me. Of course there is no direct view of the Colosseum or the S. Peter Basilica. What you see however is an overview of Roman roofs which I (and most tenants) judge to be very nice, and certainly characteristic of Rome. In the web site www.tanadelgatto.it prospective tenants can take a look at several pictures of the terrace and of the view, and judge by themselves. Thank you for your comments.

The one really good thing about this apartment in my opinion was the location. It is very close to the sites, and is also very close to the metro. I did not find the stairs to be an issue, which some people had mentioned, but I am young and in pretty good shape. I would not reccomend it for an older person.
The windows need to be replaced in the apartment. They are very drafty and they shake when it is windy out, which kept me awake one night. The apartment needs a good cleaning, as there is a lot of dust. On the surface the apartment appears clean but for example, I would leave my laptop on the counter for the day and when I would go to open it, I could see a lot of dust on it. I didn't like how I had to turn off the tv and the heater in order to use the stove, because the breaker would blow. The patio on the roof is a nice feature (again not a spectacular view as someone had mentioned) and it could be cleaned up. Also, the door to the patio is very heavy and quite difficult to manage. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has hurt themselves using it.The owner and the girls in the office (which is located very close to the apartment) were all very nice and helpful, but in my experience all vacation apartment owners have been really nice and helpful. Even though I liked the locations, I would not stay in this apartment again.

Great location, wonderful roof garden, the window latches need repaired. Wi Fi would be appreciated; an English speaking Tv station like BBC would be great.
Answer by the owner:
(1) We have repaired the window latches. The windows are
however old and need to be handled with care. (") While there is no plan to put WiFi for the moment (there are both Internet points and free WiFi spots nearby), (3) there is a new television which delivers also BBC and other English speaking channels, and also FR24 (French channel). Thank you for your comments.

Comments on the apartment we stayed in. It was a cute little apartment. However, the bed seriously needs to be replaced. I would suggest one queen size bed. The current bed is two twins put together. One side is really hard and the second bed is lumpy and slopes so you tend to roll off. With a few upgrades the apartment could be really nice. Add a vent to pull the steam out of the bathroom when showering that would also help with the mold in the shower. The shower needs to be cleaned really good and the grout resealed to help with the mold. The hot water tank really only has enough hot water for one person and then you have to wait about two hours for a second shower.
Apartment's owner Comments
Answer by the owner:
Dear tenant, thank you for leaving a comment about your stay in my apartment, with the goal of helping me to improve its comfort to the advantage of future tenants.
I must say, however, that, while some of your comments are appropriate, some other sound to me exaggerated, if we consider that the point of renting a place like mine is to live a true Roman experience in a comfortable and charming setting and at a good price, and not to stay in an
anonymous Grand Hotel with no rivals in terms of luxury and comfort. Since prospective tenants decide whether or not to rent an apartment also on the basis of the comments left by former tenants, I feel that I should reply.
(1) The beds have been replaced less than one year ago. They are orthopedic, and might seem a bit hard if you are used to sleep on very soft mattresses. I keep two single beds so that I can accommodate both single persons and couples (tying the two beds together and using queen
size mattress-cover and linen, so that the fact that they are two twins put together is hardly noticeable). One bed had indeed a slight slope and I fixed it by placing a small piece of wood under its legs on one side. (2) In the bathroom there is already a small air conditioning. Moreover, there is a window: if you keep it open there will be plenty fresh air circulation. (3) I replaced the shower curtain, that is where the mold accumulate with time. The floor of the shower has been redone less than one year ago by a very good plumber, and it looks pretty good. The little accumulation of water during showering was due to a bit of hair in the drain: we removed them (and will do that periodically) and now the water flows away nicely. Finally, we'll ask the cleaning lady to pay more attention to the shower while doing the cleaning, even though you are the first to complain about this. (4) How many showers you can take with one full tank depends obviously on how much you stay in the shower. Clients usually say that the capacity of the present tank (that I have increased when I bought the place) is enough to allow for two consecutive showers.
