Apartment Owner's Notes and Description
AREATrastevere is one of the most lively and characteristic area of the city, which is articulated around its main square, Santa Maria in Trastevere, with small alleys and streets paved with cobblestones, which are overlooked by medieval towers and houses of the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries.
Among the district of Rome Trastevere is considered the most Roman for its monuments, its urban layout and for the origin and the character of its inhabitants. It has remained fundamentally authentic and preserves the best aspects of the Roman period, especially the period of the Papal Rome.
In fact it has maintained the peace and the lifestyle of the past,it’s full of tipical shop of every kind, elegant shops, markets, book stores, art workshops as well as cinema, theater and supermarkets. In its alleys it’s still possible to find bread baked in wood oven in a thousand forms, appreciate the fragrance of freshly baked biscuits and traditional cakes, enjoy chocolate in workshops as well as taste the Roman cuisine in the many taverns and restaurants of every price range.
At night the area comes alive with lots of wine bars, theaters, street performers, clubs, private clubs and alternative venues transforming Trastevere, in all periods of the year, in one of the city's most populated area by Italians and foreigners.
During the summer, the district is further enriched with numerous cultural and gastronomic events of the "Roman Summer" along the banks of the Tiber river and on the Tiberina Island.

October 2012
In general, we really enjoyed staying here. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, the washing machine worked well, and the kitchen contained all we needed (although we mostly ate out or assembled meals, rather than cooking, and I did notice there were not many decent knives for cooking. Also, there were only wine glasses - no ordinary glasses for water, etc).
I was very disappointed that the advertised wifi did not exist. I was travelling with a child, and we had been communicating daily with my husband and daughter at home by Skype up until now. Wifi is mentioned several times in the ad, but Paola (who met us) and Leonardo (the landlord) both seemed to have no idea about this. It was in fact one of the reasons I chose this apartment (washing machine, kitchen and wifi were the three things I was looking for), and I wouldn't stay here again because of this issue.
The apartment is a little dark and doesn't have much storage space, but we expected this in an older building, so it wasn't an issue. We had one Saturday night where there was a lot of noise from a party on the terrace next door until well into the small hours, but otherwise it was fairly quiet.
We did have a problem with the shower not draining, but once I contacted Paola, this was corrected within three days.
The only other things I would suggest would be a manual on how to operate the appliances, rubbish collection, etc (Paola did tell us how the gas cooktop and hot water worked, but when you've been travelling and are tired, this information doesn't always stick!). It would also be useful to show guests the trick to unlocking the door (pull it towards you very hard and then turn the key), as I had difficulty with it the first night until I worked it out.
