the flowers and prosecco in VENICE much appreciated
we had a terrific time and hope to return sometime with some of the family to that same apartment....
we were a little shocked at how hard it is to find food to cook in central venice
(duh; we've read about this but it just didn't register)
so we had a great time eating out most of the time....

This apartment is wonderful. The location could not be better. It is very central to everything that is Venice. It is quiet but San Marco Piazza is only a five minute walk with just one bridge to cross over a canal. The walk to the Academia Bridge is under five minutes with two canal bridges and to Rialto Bridge took under 10 min. with three canal bridges (but when I timed it the 10 min. included taking a photo for a family and giving directions to someone else & I am also a slow walker). Print out & bring the walking maps for how to get to the apartment from the Giglio or S.Angelo water bus stops. We had a few missed turns on our way walking initially even though we were here just nine months ago. It is right next to a marvelous theater (Teatro Fenice where Maria Callas had her opera debut in 1947). The self guided tour there is worth it & only 1 hour. From the apartment you will hear passing gondolas in the canal below, a bit of opera rehearsals and when the shows get out you may also hear happy theatre goers leaving via boat & on foot. We were happy to stay at Alla Fenice a second time after our first trip to Venice in November (see review, below). The bedrooms are large with high ceilings, beautiful Murano glass windows and excellent air conditioning. We spent six nights this time and used both the kitchen and the washing machine more. They worked great & so did the shower. There is free wi-fi internet so we were able to use email, Facebook, etc. in the unit. Furio and his wife Paola are excellent hosts. They were very responsive to questions by email and also our phone call when we first arrived. They live nearby. We varied our occupancy a bit this time: at first we were one couple for three nights then on the fourth night two couples and a single. The next day two men left for a week long bicycling adventure in the Dolomite Mountains and three women stayed to enjoy the weekend including an incredible annual Venetian festival called Redentore ("Redemption", I think) celebrating the end of a plague in 1570 with huge fireworks over the Grand & Guidecca Canals and a temporary floating bridge. It's the third Sunday of July. Overall, it was a magical vacation and this apartment was a big part of why it was so great. We did not travel with children but if you do there are toys, TV and video games. I would love to return to Venice again some day. I hope this apartment will be available again. Thanks & Grazie!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Venice. Alla Fenice was the ideal base allowing us to make the most of our first visit to this magical city. The apartment was comfortable and central and had everything we needed from its full kitchen, washer and clothes line, extra pillows and Wi-Fi; to wonderful canal views of gondolas going by and easy access to all of Venice. We loved the traditional decor and the beautiful glass in the bedroom windows! Furio could not have been nicer or more helpful. We SO appreciated all his great suggestions of places to see, especially the day trip to Murano and the Rialto Market. We enjoyed buying fresh bread, cheese, meat and tomatoes for a quick and delivcious meal and loved the pizza at Rosa Rossa. Thank you Furio! We had a wonderful and memorable vacation. We will definitely return. :)

Our family had a wonderful experience staying in the Alla Fenice apartment the week before Christmas. The locations is perfect, and the apartment is very well kept, clean, and spacious. Our daughters also enjoyed playing with the various stuffed animals and games that were found in the apartment. We were graciously welcomed off the taxi by Furio, who helped us enormously with our bags, information about Venice, and even our our taxi back to the station. My husband was having health issues that week, and Furio's kindness helped make our week easier and more enjoyable. We would recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Venice. Thank you for everything and Happy New Year!!

Our recent stay at Alla Fenice included 11 November 2011 and this apartment lived up to and exceeded all of the great reviews already on this site. We were on our first but hopefully not last visit to Venice. We were traveling with our college aged daughter who is studying abroad in Florence. She loved having her own bedroom. The rooms are large with high ceilings and great furnishings. The beds were comfortable. The huge windows with Murano glass open onto a darling canal where the gondolas cruise past. The heating and hot water were ample. There is a fully equipped kitchen and large bathroom with a combined bath tub and shower and a newer washing machine. The dining table is in a comfortable room that we would call a living room at home in Seattle. The unit is only one flight up from the ground level. The lower unit is an art gallery during the afternoons & had a Francis Bacon show while we were there. The location is very central yet quiet and off the main paths. Everything seemed less than a 5 minute walk away. We easily walked to San Marco Piazza many times and also the Rialto and Academia Bridges. We had friends over for wine and appetizers one evening before going out to dinner with them. They loved the place too. I want to go back to Venice and would stay at Alla Fenice again if it is available. The owners were very responsive via email when we booked somewhat last minute and also helped us with all the things to do and see once we arrived. We have nothing negative to say about this great place. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
